Policia - Recogida de Tarjeta de Identidad de Extranjero (TIE)

What you need to know

Once you present all your documents, it´s time to wait. The process can take anywhere from 2 to 6 weeks so just relax and be patient. In the meantime, you will be given a resguardo (an official receipt and proof that you are waiting for your NIE) and a date or lot number after which you can collect your NIE. Remember, the time you wait depends on the region you live in.

The collection of the TIE will be carried out exclusively by the holder of the same. In the case of minors under 6 years of age, it is not necessary to verify the fingerprint to collect the TIE, so the person holding the legal representation or proxy may attend, without the minor. For minors over 6 years of age and people with legally supplemented capacity, their fingerprint must be verified at the time of delivery. Therefore, they must be present at the office at the time of collection of the TIE, together with the person who holds their legal representation or power of attorney.

IMPORTANT: To obtain this appointment, you must previously confirm (on the day of the fingerprint taking) with the office that issued your card from which date it will be available. In the case of not having made such confirmation, you should not obtain this appointment before 45 days have passed since the fingerprint was taken. Likewise, it is recalled that the card can ONLY be collected at the office where the issue took place.
